Broken Wide Open is a solo theatre show featuring Shana Pennington-Baird telling her story about surviving an aortic dissection while traveling alone in Ireland. This hour-long musical story includes 10 songs and 40 minutes of comedic and dramatic narrative including a 6-person live band. This poignant and hysterical show takes the audience through the harrowing and terrifying experience of almost dying alone and what it took to get back home to Seattle. This solo show will be produced in three separate parts – an audio drama that was produced during the pandemic and will release on March 15, 2022; a live-theatre production in Seattle including 45 additional minutes of Celtic music; and a tour of the show to Edinburgh to the Fringe Fest and back to Cork, Ireland, where Shana’s harrowing journey took place.
