What happens when Black women writers write together? We change the culture.
Black Women Write Seattle began with a small group of women who met every other Sunday at a local coffee shop - just to write. What started as two people, became three, then four, then more - then an entire organization with over 60 Black women and non-binary writers - from ages 20s to 80s - who write together, collaborate, and encourage each other. We dispell the myth of the solo “rockstar” writer's journey in favor of Black feminist models of connection, community, and support.
Black Women Write Seattle celebrates its first year anniversary in January 2025!! Our group of both tenured and emerging writers continues to meet monthly for craft workshops, generative writing exercises, and co-learning with guest speakers about the publishing industry.
