In summer 2016, La Sala presented La Cocina, a month-long pop-up arts salon in Pioneer Square's Good Arts building. La Cocina, an official Seattle Arts Fair partner, cooked up a collaborative process to create and present new works by Latino/a/x artists, working in and between the media of dance, performance, music, painting, sculpture, video, fashion, ritual, and literature. More than 50 artists presented their work and more than 800 community members were engaged with this month-long celebration of Latino/a/x arts!
La Cocina built on a decade of La Sala efforts, including:
Cultural Incubator: To promote culture and accelerate artistic careers while engaging community for 500+ artists, supporters and eight organizations, La Sala acts as a cultural incubator producing an average of three events, trainings or civic ventures annually.
Connector: La Sala has connected artists to presentation opportunities at Benham Gallery, Bellevue Art Musuem, CoCA, and many other Seattle-area venues.
Future Cultural Hub: Throughout our history, our long-term vision has been to create a stable hub for Latino/a/x arts in the Seattle area. Your support of La Sala through GiveBIG 2017 will bring us closer to that long-term dream!
